ALONG THE WAY

I use film, light, and a very simple camera to let photography inform me about my life. I’ve relinquished the necessity to control every aspect of what the camera outputs in order to explore something truer to the experience of being in a place. The subjects and moments I choose to photograph are very intuitive and are found in my daily movements through the world – they are at home, on a walk, in the car, at work, at my son’s school, and anywhere else that happens to be a part of my regular routine.

By shooting with a lightweight plastic camera and medium format film, I have the freedom to have my camera with me, ready at all times. After exposing the film, I spend hours in the darkroom crafting each print. This time spent in the quiet, alone with my work, forces me to slow down and give recognition the insignificant moments of my life. In spending time reflecting back on the final work, I’ve realized that it has become a visual journal of the still, peaceful, surreal seconds that exist between the disarray, the grind, and the busyness.
